LivOrg is a Leonardo da Vinci, Development of Innovation, funded projectled by ERIFO (Italy) with the cooperation of organizations from Spain,Greece, Italy, Estonia, Germany and Poland. LivOrg project addressesthe increasingly relevance of the Organic Farming system in Europeorganizing a harmonic and common VET (Vocational Education and Training)framework in the organic livestock management area and encouraging theconversion from high-input agriculture to organic agriculture systems.The organic farming and livestock sector has gone a long way since itwas first regulated at the EU level. The role of the farmer in Europe ischanging, as farmers have to develop new skills to be competitive. In aglobal word, they need to become more entrepreneurial and mustincreasingly add land management and environmental expertise. There isalso a growing demand in the organic movement for guidance and directionof the sector, as well as a shared interest among the members to bemore active in shaping the future of organics. Organic livestock isright one of the areas where the skills of organic farmers are mostimportant and most frequently called upon and where organic farmers arerequested to have well skilled professional producers. There are manypractices and visions involved in this field, all of which are designedto provide livestock with comfortable and stress-free lives inaccordance with their natural needs. Following up on this demand, needsand interest, LivOrg Consortium will be cooperating in a detailedtwo-year work programme to develop innovative training solutions foryoung and adults learners wishing to work in the farming sector anddevelop new skills to be competitive in the organic world. Through theactivities, LivOrg Consortium aims to develop and reinforce specificsector skills alliances bringing together stakeholders from differentEuropean Countries and sharing goals with organisations and institutionsto continue to expand the scope of organic farming beyond the projectlifetime.

The LivOrg project aims to develop and deliver a sector specificcurriculum with a strong package of ?VET? Units in organic livestockmanagement tightly connected to the European Qualifications Framework(EQF) and the European Credit system for Vocational Education andTraining (ECVET) for the transfer and recognition of organic farmers´skills in EU.

The LivOrg Project objectives are to:

  • Increase the awareness of organic livestock management area to meetthe sector and policymakers? needs in EU improving the system to becompetitive with conventional processes.
  • Extend the sector skills alliance activities reinforcing the effective cooperation between organic farmers and stakeholders.
  • Improve the quality of training systems through the development ofinnovative contents, methods and procedures within VET system inresponse to evolving skills needs.
  • Encourage the growth of an entrepreneurial spirit through a doubletransition through interethnic and intergenerational approaches.

The LivOrg project?s main activities are:

  • Designing and describing of ?VET? Units package for a new jointprofessional curriculum related to organic livestock managementactivities and covering production, processing and certification areas.
  • Designing and implementing VET experiences of 80hs for young-adultlearners through an integrated blended approach supported by learning onthe job methods.
  • Defining a multi-actor approach, particularly thanks to: a) strongnetworks between partners and stakeholders; b) the initiatives of LivOrgstrategic networking groups composed of skill-based members; c)regional, national or european initiatives thematically organized amongpartners, targets groups and stakeholders.
  • Designing and testing: a) business incubator Laboratories wheredeveloping models of organic farming and entrepreneurial capacitybuilding b) PILOT courses to exeperiment new innovative trainingmethodologies through indoor, outdoor and e-learning activities c)strategies and methods for a general learning outcomes assessment inaccordance with EQF and ECVET requirements.
  • Promoting and disseminating the activities and results at differentlevel (Regional, National and European) through the Project FacebookGroup and some strategic tools and events.
  • Exploiting all the deliverables and results achieved for an effective follow up process beyond the project lifetime.

Project Industrial animal farms in the Baltic Sea Region - sustainable practices to reduce nutrient loads is a part of a long-term campaign of the Coalition Clean Baltic and Green Federation "GAJA", aiming to reduce the negative impact of large-scale animal production on the environment and local communities in the Baltic Sea Region, particularly by reducing nutrient run-off into the sea.
