20.02.2013

The Phosphorus-index has been identified within the Intensive PigProduction Program as a cost effective tool to reduce the risk forphosphor losses from fields. Different P-indices (or similar models)have been developed in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Germany, but so farthe practical use of P-indices is very low. In January 2011, Baltic Sea2020 arranged a workshop, for scientists, authorities and agriculturaladvisers to exchange experiences. The participants agreed on thatP-indices are a potentially useful tool to predict the risk for P-lossesfrom agricultural field, but that the models need to be developed andmade more user friendly.

SHORT ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Industrial animal farms in the Baltic Sea Region - sustainable practices to reduce nutrient loads is a part of a long-term campaign of the Coalition Clean Baltic and Green Federation "GAJA", aiming to reduce the negative impact of large-scale animal production on the environment and local communities in the Baltic Sea Region, particularly by reducing nutrient run-off into the sea. The project is part-financed by the European Union. This website reflects only the view of the Coalition Clean Baltic.
