The petitioner and a group of academics representing the air qualityodour laboratory of the West Pomeranian University of Technology inSzczecin are calling on the Commission to prepare draft legislation toregulate the presence of odours in the environment. In this connection,the petitioner calls on the European Parliament to ask the Commission topresent such draft legislation.The petitioner points out that thelevels of odorous substances can be measured (e.g. pursuant to technicalstandard EN 13725:2003) and stresses the impact that odours can have onthe wellbeing of local communities, as well as the need to includeodorous substances among the pollutants regulated byDirective 2008/50/EC (the CAFE Directive). Requirements concerning thelevel of odour nuisance would have an impact on the locations of newinstallations emitting odours in the vicinity of residential buildingsor would require installations deodorising emitted gases to beefficient.
