The PeGaSusresearch project (Phosphorus efficiency in the chicken Gallus gallusand pig Sus scrofa), 2017-2020, will look at the fate of phosphorus inlivestock production (in fodder, animals, microbiota, manure slurry, soil and water), model phosphorus management strategies and policymeasures, carry out livestock trials of different feed strategies andalternative phosphorus feed sources and laboratory studies tocharacterise biological factors impacting phosphorus utilisation, assessphosphorus recycling potential (manure, bone meal), model phosphorus deficient/surplus areas within selected eutrophication Sensitive Areas, and propose policy measures to reduce phosphorus losses and increaserecycling. PEGaSus is a project within the European Research AreaNETwork on Sustainable Animal Production (ERA-NET SusAn),a network of 36 national research councils, national food and foodsafety agencies or similar, agricultural ministries and otherorganisations, which pool funds for transnational calls for researchinto sustainable animal production.

SHORT ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Industrial animal farms in the Baltic Sea Region - sustainable practices to reduce nutrient loads is a part of a long-term campaign of the Coalition Clean Baltic and Green Federation "GAJA", aiming to reduce the negative impact of large-scale animal production on the environment and local communities in the Baltic Sea Region, particularly by reducing nutrient run-off into the sea. The project is part-financed by the European Union. This website reflects only the view of the Coalition Clean Baltic.
