Two regional workshops ?Manure in a Circular Agricultural System? in Eindhoven (The Netherlands) and Osnabrück Melle (Germany) enabledscientists, farmers organisations, industry and regulators to discusschallenges to manure processing and recycling in intensive livestockregions. The meetings are organised by North-Brabant Province, aim toidentify actions to facilitate manure nutrient recycling andvalorisation of recycled nutrient products from manures. Challengesidentified include (1) the negative image of intensive livestockproduction which can impact acceptance of manure-derived recycledfertiliser products, (2) difficulty in assessing expected impacts ofregulatory changes concerning farm nutrient management, (3) tracking ofmanure management legislation implementation, and (4) qualitycertification of products processed from manure. These challengesaccentuate difficulties for investment, funding and acceptability ofcosts to farmers, posing obstacles to the long-term goal of circularity.Noord-Brabant will propose a follow up on these workshops, taking intoaccount the conclusions and the input from participants and from otherregional governments.

SHORT ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Industrial animal farms in the Baltic Sea Region - sustainable practices to reduce nutrient loads is a part of a long-term campaign of the Coalition Clean Baltic and Green Federation "GAJA", aiming to reduce the negative impact of large-scale animal production on the environment and local communities in the Baltic Sea Region, particularly by reducing nutrient run-off into the sea. The project is part-financed by the European Union. This website reflects only the view of the Coalition Clean Baltic.
