The EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, prepared by the EuropeanParliament and the European Commission, contributes to more intensivecooperation between the Baltic countries and shapes the region into aregional cooperation model for the whole EU.

The strategy sets focus on four areas: environment, economy,accessibility and security. The implementation of the strategy isfinanced from different EU funds in the area including the Baltic SeaRegion Programme. The Commission officially launched the Strategy andits Action Plan on 10 June 2009. The Strategy was adopted by theEuropean Council on the 26 October 2009.

The newest version of the EUSBSR Action Plan is now available. Thisversion is a result of the most urgent updates provided by the PriorityArea Coordinators in late 2011. These proposals were consulted withother Commission's services and EUSBSR High Level Group.

Project Industrial animal farms in the Baltic Sea Region - sustainable practices to reduce nutrient loads is a part of a long-term campaign of the Coalition Clean Baltic and Green Federation "GAJA", aiming to reduce the negative impact of large-scale animal production on the environment and local communities in the Baltic Sea Region, particularly by reducing nutrient run-off into the sea.
