The World Economic Forum recently published 25 tipping points pushing our oceans past the point of no return. The Baltic Sea alarming situation is also addressed!

Our oceans are an interconnected set of complex and dynamic systems. Rapid economic growth over the past 50 years has increased humanity's ecological footprint by several orders of magnitude, crossing several boundaries that represent stable conditions for modern civilisation.

Around the globe, various chemical, physical and biological systemsare changing on a planetary scale. Pressures such as fishing,large-scale coastal developments, pollution and climate change areincreasing at an exponential rate, causing entire ocean systems to comeperilously close to irreversible tipping points. This will have profoundimplications for the water we drink, the food we eat and stable globalweather patterns.

SHORT ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Industrial animal farms in the Baltic Sea Region - sustainable practices to reduce nutrient loads is a part of a long-term campaign of the Coalition Clean Baltic and Green Federation "GAJA", aiming to reduce the negative impact of large-scale animal production on the environment and local communities in the Baltic Sea Region, particularly by reducing nutrient run-off into the sea. The project is part-financed by the European Union. This website reflects only the view of the Coalition Clean Baltic.
